Joined the Navy in '60 - started flying as an enlisted crewmember; did the Berlin
Crisis and Cuban blockade. Went to Navy pilot training in '64 - was a couple of weeks behind Marion Hindman - crossed paths with him for several years
then lost touch. Did three tours in Viet Nam flying recon. Left the Navy
'75 to '78.
Finished a degree at Texas A&I and worked as a factory flight instructor for Cessna. Returned to USN
'78, went to Europe for 2 years flying a four-star and his staff all over Europe and the
Med.
Moved to Whidbey Island in 80. Was resident
instructor/evaluator/check pilot at the Naval Air Station until USN retirement in
'85.
Spent a summer flying relief supplies into dirt strips in Sudan, then got into the airline game. Now with American Airlines (my fourth airline). Flew
out of San Fran for several years - mostly to Tokyo or Honolulu; 6 years out of Chicago to Europe; a year out of
Dallas short haul and now out of Miami. Hold a dual qualification - 757's that we use to the islands ( San Juan/St Thomas/St
Maarten/Kingston/Aruba/Barbados/Port of Spain) and 767's that we use to Rio/Sao Paulo/Buenos Aires/Santiago.
Have lived on Whidbey Is. since '80. Coupeville is only 50 nm northwest of Seattle, but with the ferry ride takes 2
hours.
Have a small farm- great place to raise a family. Linda is a RN
at the local hospital. Kids are 23, 21, 16, 13.
