April 14, 2001:
Oh, let me see, what have I been doing for the last 42
years?
I was married in 1960 and from that
marriage came three boys - Tom, now 39, Scott, 37, and Mark 35. I have
two granddaughters, Ashley 16 and Courtney 14. Then came three little
grandsons, Travis 5, Cody 4, and Tyler 1.
We lived in the Bradenton-Sarasota
area until 1971 when we moved to Naples. I did the young housewife
things, i.e. PTA, Junior Women’s Club, Hospital volunteer, etc. until
I decided in 1988 to go to work. That’s also the year my husband and I
divorced.
I work for Health Management
Associates, Inc. HMA is a hospital company and we own 36 hospitals
primarily in the Southeast and Southwest - none in the Bradenton area,
although we did try to buy Manatee Memorial several years ago. I am
Administrative Assistant to the Senior Vice President and Corporate
Controller. Since our company’s stock is traded on the New York Stock
Exchange, part of my job is SEC reporting. Boring sometimes and fun
other times. I love my job but am looking forward to retirement in about
4 years.
In my spare time I do counted
cross-stitching, make teddy bears, decorate wedding cakes and am active
in the music program in my church. I love to travel. There are things
and places out there I haven’t seen and am trying my best to see them
all before I die (not that I am planning on dying any time soon).
I have a summer home in the North Georgia Mountains in
Hiawassee. Although I was born and raised on the West Coast of Florida,
my heart is in the mountains. I don’t get up there as often as I would
like, but do get to sneak away a couple of times a year and then on some
long weekends. I will spend more time there when retirement comes
along.
